Students as Storytellers
From one session to many, Karen will customize her program to meet your learning objectives and your school’s standards for each grade level.

Karen can lead a story circle for your students (or train you to lead a story circle) where students will learn to tell a variety of stories including, personal, original, family, folk and fairy tales. The story circle process focuses on creating a safe and supportive place for students to share and be heard.

For ESL students, storytelling will help students become more comfortable speaking English.

For students with special needs, especially for students with autism and non-verbal communicative disorders who utilize facilitated communication. Karen uses story games and unique classroom activities to make the storytelling process accessible to all students.
Teacher Trainings
Karen teaches workshops for teachers in schools and for credit points at universities and educational institutions.

In Karen’s highly interactive workshop, teachers learn how to use storytelling to enhance language arts, history, social science, and science. Teachers will learn where to find stories and how to “infuse” them with educational content and tell them engagingly and memorably.

Karen has worked with a wide range of individuals including clergy, business-persons, authors, doctors, lawyers, teachers, actors, other storytellers and university professors.

She has also coached performers developing one person shows from concept to final product.
Karen’s performance style is both playful and serious. She animates different characters by adding sound effects and mixing in music she plays on the saxophone, recorder, hulusi, accordion, ocarina, and even the nose flute; plus a variety of folkloric instruments she has collected from around the world.
